SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS SCHOOL SPORT

Warriors Community Foundation deliver a range of adapted and multi sport sessions into local Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools to increase participation and exposure to rugby via a multi sport approach. We use inclusive and adaptable delivery methods to deliver effective sessions that children enjoy. We also run junior mixed ability/SEN teams at local rugby clubs and deliver CPD sessions to staff or coaches with the intention to increase knowledge and create a sustainable and safe club environment for SEN children around Worcestershire.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Scientific research underpins the need for physical activity for people with a disability as there are numerous physical advantages, but it can also offer so much more.

Physical activity is a great way of providing personal growth as well as managing behaviour and allowing emotional expression. Participation in sport can lead to the empowerment of people with disabilities.

Just about any sport or activity can be modified to allow special needs children to get the cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength-training benefits that allow kids to stay healthy and fit.

FOCUSED ON ENJOYMENT

Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) delivery is focused on participation and enjoyment. Part of our commitment to exposure to sport within the SEN community is offering coaching and support to a variety of schools in and around Worcestershire as a supplement to their PE lessons or as extra-circular activities. We also work with local disability organisations to offer physical activity to their participants. This opportunity to explore a different side to Rugby through multi-sport and adapted versions of the game allows people to try something new and progress their physical skills, gain confidence and increase social skills. It also presents teachers and activity leaders with the tools and ideas for future lessons.
